Veterinary Surgical Care
Your pet's safety and comfort are our highest priority at Brazoria County Veterinary Medical Center. Whether your pet needs a routine spay or neuter procedure or requires a more complicated soft-tissue or orthopedic surgery, we are ready to provide compassionate care using advanced veterinary surgical techniques.
It is our goal to make your pet comfortable and provide you with peace of mind. Pain control is one of our top priorities for your pet. We take all necessary steps to relieve any discomfort before, during, and after your pet's surgical procedure.
We encourage you to ask questions about your pet's surgery. Prior to surgery, your pet undergoes a full physical examination; we use this examination to develop an anesthesia protocol for your pet. During surgery, your pet's vital signs, including blood pressure, oxygen levels, and heart rate, are monitored using advanced monitoring equipment. A trained veterinary technician is on hand to monitor your pet's condition during surgery. Upon completion of the surgery, the veterinary technician or the doctor will call you to inform you of the results.
While our hospital is capable of performing a variety of surgical procedures, some complex surgical procedures may be referred to a trusted outside surgeon.
Laser Surgery
The doctors and staff of Brazoria County Veterinary Medical Center are committed to providing state-of-the-art veterinary care. The Carbon Dioxide Laser produces an invisible beam of light, which heats and vaporizes tissue almost instantaneously without any physical contact. This is done so precisely that the normal surrounding tissues are hardly affected. Pet surgery is made gentler with laser surgery.
The laser does not tear, crush or bruise tissue due to the lack of physical contact. It is able to seal nerve endings and small blood vessels as it "cuts". The combined effect of laser surgery provides the following benefits:
- • less pain
- • less bleeding
- • less swelling
- • reduced risk of infection
- • faster recovery
One of the most remarkable advantages of laser surgery is the ability to perform a Laser Declaw. This new technique is much more humane than the traditional method of declawing as it dramatically decreases the pain involved. Bandages are not necessary, as there is very minimal bleeding. Cats return to normal activity soon after the procedure.
